Entry Regulations 2013

 

1.   ABOUT CNIFF

The 2nd edition of Colours of the Nile International Film Festival (CNIFF) will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, date yet to be disclosed. CNIFF is organized by Blue Nile Film and Television Academy (BNFTA) and the Ethiopian Filmmakers Association (EFIMA). The festival aims to promote African cinema and create the opportunity for African Filmmakers to exchange and network, to develop African film market as well as to facilitate the venue for experiencing world cinema. The official program of the festival comprises:

The CNIFF organization invites filmmakers to submit their films for screening in competition and out of competition as per the submission requirements and guidelines below.

 

2.   SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT

A.  FORMAT

  1. All entries must be submitted either in Blu-ray or DVD in PAL format. Other formats maybe possible after agreement with the festival.
  2. Only films completed after January 1st, 2010 are eligible to apply for the festival. 
  3. Films made in language other than English must have English language subtitles.
  4. Each entry must be accompanied by a signed official entry form.

3.   JURY AND AWARDS

3.1      Only African films are eligible for competitions. An African film is defined as a film made by an African Director or of African Diaspora (origin).

3.2      The most prestigious award of the Festival is THE GREAT NILE AWARD given to the best director of a feature length film. Other awards will be provided in all categories of the competition. A jury comprised of filmmakers and cinema/media professionals will award winners in the following categories:

-       Best feature length film (receiving the main award of the festival, the Great Nile Award)
-       Best short film
-       Best feature length documentary
-       Best short documentary
-       Best cinematography
-       Best screenplay
-       Best original soundtrack
-       Best sound
-       Best actor
-       Best actress

 

4.   INVITATIONS

4.1 The festival may invite the director (or one of the main characters) of feature films in competition.

4.2 When such invitation is made the festival covers travel costs, accommodations and local expenses in Addis.

 

5.   CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY

5.1    Submission indicates acceptance of the Festival Entry Regulations.

5.2    There is no entry fee.

5.3    Films must be submitted by one of the film's right holders. It is the sole responsibility of the film submitter to secure clearance from the copyright holders of any copyrighted materials included within the submitted film. CNIFF will not be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of copyright materials within or related to the submitted film.

5.4    Submission of a work confirms that CNIFF has permission to exhibit it during the Festival. Each film may be screened more than one time depending on the decision of the Festival organization. During the festival no film selected may be screened outside the Festival venues before its official presentation at the festival.

5.5    Submission implies that the Festival employ moving images, excerpts and reproduce stills for exhibition promotion.

5.6    Entry forms must be downloaded and printed, signed and sent to the Festival office with two DVD or Blu-ray copies of the film (for DVD and Blu-ray formats) together with a press kit.  Entry will only be valid upon receiving of the complete form.

5.7    No film selected may be withdrawn from the festival program after submission of the entry form.

5.8    Acceptance of films to be invited and shown at CNIFF by the Festival will take place in a timely fashion to allow for planning for those wishing to attend the Festival.

5.9    Programming is at the sole discretion of the festival organization and their decision is final and irrevocable.

5.10  The festival President reserves the right to settle any case not covered by these regulations.

 

 6.   DEADLINES AND DELIVERY OF THE SELECTED FILMS

6.1    While the mailing of submissions is at cost of the submitter, the Festival will cover the costs of returning the films to their owners.

6.2    The sender should inform the Festival office by fax or e-mail of the date their entries were mailed and the shipping method used, including tracking numbers (if there are any), as well as the contact information of the person responsible for the entry.

6.3    The film should reach the festival before the 15th of November 2013.

6.4    All presentation and publicity material (poster, film cards, and press book, statement by the director, trailer and photos on DVD) of selected films must be received before the 30th of November 2013.

6.5    The Festival covers insurance costs for the works invited to participate while they are inside the official boundaries of the Festival.

6.6    All copies shall be returned to submitters no later than two weeks after the end of the Festival.

Films accompanied by a complete official entry form and press materials should be sent to:
